Scientific committee

Eva Nordberg Karlsson

Eva Nordberg Karlsson

Eva Nordberg Karlsson is Professor at the Division of Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology at Lund University and a member of Biotech Heights.

Her research focus is on production, molecular development and enzymology of carbohydrate active enzymes from extremophiles and putative probiotic bacteria (for production of poly/oligosaccharides, glycosylated polyphenolic substances, surfactants). The research is related to industrial and food biotechnology for sustainable development.

Magnus Carlquist

Magnus Carlquist

Magnus Carlquist is Professor in Applied Microbiology at the Division of Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology, Lund University, since 2024.

After a postdoc at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) where he studied cellular heterogeneity in yeast bioprocesses, he returned to Lund and started work on microbial physiology and strain development for biocatalytic upgrading of side-streams from agriculture and forestry.

Lena de Maré

Lena de Maré

Lena de Maré is the manager of the innovation hub Biotech Heights.

In 2006, she defended her PhD in Automatic Control with a focus on bioreactor control, at Lund University. After her defense, she joined Tetra Pak in the processing department. At Tetra Pak, she has held various roles, including management roles, for 19 years to develop equipment and systems for more efficient food processes.

She joined Biotech Heights in September 2025, but retains her employment at Tetra Pak.

Claus Heiner Bang Berthelsen

Claus Heiner Bang Berthelsen

Claus Heiner Bang Berthelsen is a Senior Scientist at National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark.

His  research focus is on the development and utilization of the in-house lactic acid bacterial strain collection containing more than 4500 isolates from different biological niches, that he has established at DTU Food. A general theme has been the interest in applications that have benefit for society as developing functional foods and food additives.
